Organic Fertilizers For Lawns

Let's address those so-called "disadvantages" of using organic fertilizers on your lawn.

Organic Fertilizer "Disadvantages":

  1. Organic fertilizers cost more
Back not too long ago, organic fertilizer was considered "pricey".  Sort of a boutique item for concerned gardeners who were interested in the environment.  Chemical fertilizers were cheap, they were quick, and they sure got results (when it didn't burn, of course).  They work for the short term, anyway.

(But if you go way back even further, you'll find that before chemical fertilizers became so readily available, fertilizing was done exclusively "organically".  See "the fuss about VermaPlex" for more).

Now, back to today and the price of oil.  That "cheap" advantage of chemical fertilizer no longer applies.  It's getting downright expensive and folks are looking around for an alternative.  The tables have turned.

You can make your own compost and vermi-compost to supply your organic fertilizers from free stuff (organic waste).  Soil amendments, like VermaMax™ , are available to add a little umph like extra nitrogen and calcium when needed. So who needs expensive chemical fertilizers?

  2. Organic fertilizer release rates are too slow:
Most everybody loves the "slow-release" of organic fertilizers.  But, for some, it needs to "get on with it".  How do you do that?

As you know, the nutrients in organic material must first be consumed by microbes.  The microbes "die" and the nutrients are now available to grass and plants.

It stands to reason that the more microbes contained in the organic material.... the higher the quality of microbes..... the more diverse the microbe population..... the quicker the release and the faster you see results. (Later, you'll see an easy way to increase your organic fertilizer microbe content.)

  3. Organic fertilizer contains weed seeds.
If you've the time and place to start a compost pile, if you've the time and place to put a vermi-compost bin, by all means do it.  The organic content produced is  "gold" for your soil and is well worth the effort. Just allow it to "heat up" and age properly.

Seeds can survive compost piles that aren't allowed "heat up".  Horse manures can have some pretty major seeds left in it if it hasn't been properly "heated up". Vermi-compost can contain seeds, as well.

Now, a few seeds don't seem like reason enough to reject organic fertilizer.  But, if you want an organic fertilizer that's guaranteed to contains no seeds .... but wait. This first....

Eliminate the "Disadvantages" of Organic Grass Fertilize....

Remember how we talked about a way to increase the microbe content of your soil and organic compost above in #2?  Here's how. By adding a microbial soil inoculant, like VermaPlex® (made from certified organic Pure Black Castings™ ), you boost the microbe content of your soil into the stratosphere.

The extra microbes consume the organic material , like worm castings or your compost, and make nutrients available for your lawn grass quicker (but not so quick as to "burn").  You see results in a day or two after application. So, #2 (too slow) no longer applies.

As for the weed seeds, Pure Black Castings™ are guaranteed to contain absolutely no weed seeds and are 99.9% all worm castings.  Apply these worm castings for your "organic material" and you take care of #3 (seeds).

Worm castings  (worm poop) are rich fertilizers filled with naturally occurring microbes and make excellent lawn fertilizer. Pure Black Castings™ are worm castings that are "super-charged".  Apply these castings to your lawn, inoculate with VermaPlex® and watch your grass grow and turn green. (Apply in the spring and fall. See application instructions.)

What's more, both VermaPlex® and Pure Black Castings™ are concentrated, so a little goes a long way.  You get more bang for your buck.   And that completely takes care of #1 (pricey).

With these two organic lawn grass fertilizers, you get all the benefits of organic fertilizer, but none of the disadvantages.  Who could ask for more?
